  • 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 to 7 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • cup fresh strawberry puree

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C) and prepare two greased and floured round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg whites and vanilla extract; mix well.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients with milk and strawberry puree until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans; bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes on a rack before frosting with cream cheese buttercream.
