  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for filling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture by warming milk to about 110°F, adding yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, cocoa powder, and food coloring. Add the yeast mixture, butter, egg, and buttermilk; mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 7–8 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter and sprinkle with filling mixture.
  7. Roll tightly into a log shape and cut into 12 equal slices.
  8. Place slices in a greased baking dish; cover and let rise again for about 30–40 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden.
  10. Whisk together glaze ingredients; drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
