  • 6 cups apples (about 6 medium)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 double pie crust
  • 23 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425F.
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice; mix well.
  4. Fill the prepared crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust over the filling; seal edges and cut slits in the top for steam.
  6. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar on top.
  7. Bake at 425F for 15 minutes, then lower to 375F and bake for another 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool on a rack before serving.
