  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted or softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter and 1/4 cup granulated sugar until fluffy. Add 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp salt, then mix in 1 cup all-purpose flour until dough forms. Press into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. In another bowl, combine 3 large sliced apples with 2 tbsp flour, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. Spread over the crust.
  4. For the topping, mix 1/2 cup flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 cup melted butter until crumbly; sprinkle over the apple layer.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing.
