  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, butter, salt, and water over medium heat until melted.
  3. Stir continuously until the mixture reaches a boil; then use a candy thermometer to cook until it reaches 290F (143C).
  4. Remove from heat and mix in chopped nuts and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
  6. While still warm, sprinkle chocolate chips on top and let them soften before spreading into an even layer.
  7. Garnish with extra chopped nuts and flaked sea salt if desired, then let cool completely before breaking into pieces.
