  • 1 cups all-purpose flour
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water or coffee
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 6 oz melted dark chocolate
  • mini Easter eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla; mix until combined.
  3. Gradually stir in hot water or coffee until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 3035 minutes. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  5. For the ganache, heat cream until simmering; pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.
  6. To create the nest, melt dark chocolate and pipe crisscrossed strands on parchment paper; refrigerate until firm.
  7. Assemble by pouring ganache over cooled cake and placing the chocolate nest on top filled with mini eggs.
