  3. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, vegetable oil, milk, egg, and almond extract until smooth.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients gentlydo not overmix.
  5. Fold in the fresh cherries carefully into the batter.
  6. Divide the batter among the muffin cups, filling them about three-quarters full.
  7. Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
