  • 1 pre-baked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 cup dulce de leche
  • 1 2/3 cups heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Spread the dulce de leche evenly in the bottom of the cooled pie crust.
  2. In a heavy-bottom saucepan, whisk together cornstarch and heavy cream until smooth. Add sweetened condensed milk and egg yolks, mixing well.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and bubbles.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla until melted and smooth.
  5. Pour the custard over the dulce de leche in the pie crust. Chill overnight in the refrigerator to set.
  6. Before serving, sprinkle granulated sugar evenly on top and use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar until golden brown.
