  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, plus 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, beat room temperature butter with light brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
  3. Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  4. In another bowl, cream cold cubed butter with sugars; add egg and yolk one at a time along with vanilla. Mix dry ingredients until just combined; fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Scoop both doughs into balls and press them together gently before placing on baking sheets.
  6. Bake for about 8-9 minutes until edges are set but centers are slightly under-baked.
  7. Cool on baking sheets for 5-10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
